<p> DIED. Jack Gilford, 82, droopy-faced veteran stage, screen
and TV character actor; in New York City. A Milton Berle
protege, Gilford was blacklisted during the McCarthy era but
came back to win two Tony nominations (as the slave Hysterium
in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and as Herr
Schultz in Cabaret) and an Oscar nomination (as a garment
manufacturer in Save the Tiger).
